Blue Lander Turquoise

Most noteworthy, Blue Lander Turquoise (Lander Blue) is the most expensive turquoise in the world. Consequently, very little of this turquoise is ever found.  Back in 1973, a blackjack dealer by the name of Rita Hapgood finds float or surface nuggets. She is an employee of the Nevada Club and resident of nearby Battle Mountain, Nevada. Rita finds the precious blue nuggets while picnicking with her two sisters at Indian Creek, Nevada.                                  


                                                                                                Consequently, the mine turns out to be a very small pocket of turquoise. People refer to this as a “Hat Mine.” This term refers to a small turquoise discovery that is able to fit under a hat.                                                                                


When these types of mines are worked, the miners deplete the turquoise forever. This mine sells to legendary turquoise miners Marvin Syme and Henry Dorian for $10,000. 

Most importantly, Lander Blue has an intense deep blue color with tight black or brown spider-webbing. One significant characteristic you will want to look for is black shadowing. Each *boytroidal nodule should have black it’s own dark shadowing. *Boytroidal means “like grapes.”         


Most notably, there is Chinese turquoise, in the market place, which sellers market as Lander Blue Turquoise. Consequently, it is important to both educate yourself about this rare turquoise. Also, it is important to be able to trust your dealer or source.   

Finally, the experts say that only 110 pounds of this rare turquoise is ever found.

As a result of it coming to market in the 1970’s, you will want to look for 1970’s mountings. . Lone Mountain Turquoise can look very close to Lander Blue. Only through repetitive exposure to Lander Blue will you learn the difference!
